Dyslexia is a neurological difference that is estimated to effect 1 in 10 people within the UK. It is a learning difference which affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Characteristic features of dyslexia are difficulties in phonological awareness, verbal memory and verbal processing speed. Individuals with dyslexia may also experience difficulties with aspects of language, motor co-ordination, mental calculation, concentration and personal organisation. Some individuals with dyslexia can also experience auditory and visual processing difficulties but can have strengths in other areas, such as design, problem solving, creative skills, interactive skills and oral skills. Each individual will experience the condition in a unique way, and will have their own areas of difficulty and ability.
